“They are the poor helping the poor. They are youth serving youth. Those involved freely give of themselves in offering to less fortunate youth opportunities that call forth their talents in the arts. In a congenial and affirming atmosphere, children are gathered to explore interests in dance, theater, creative movement/dance, singing, and visual arts. Also, the Minstrels provide functional literacy for those in need.
While the varying programs of The Minstrels provide opportunities for the youth to develop their skills in the areas of alternative education and arts, they also become a venue for The Minstrels to return to their civic community some of the advantages from which they have benefited over the years. In their persons they become witnesses to love, concern and solidarity with those less fortunate in their society.
This new endeavor came about through the desire of nine young women and Mr. Alain Pronovost to creatively give of themselves for the alternative education of those youth less fortunate. While recognizing the basic need of education for the youth of the Philippines, they also recognize the need to stimulate and call forth the talents of youth in the arts. Thus, they are offering eight specific programs in the areas of alternative education and arts. In so doing, they offer opportunities to Filipino youth to gain not only intellectual knowledge, but to express themselves creatively and be creators of beauty in an often depressive and sensually non-pleasing environment.
